Wilderness Wonderings: Testing for Limestone

While TWC is closed and we aren’t able to offer in-person or on-site programming, we are going to be creating a series of fun, educational videos to engage folks of all ages.

Schools are closed, but there is plenty your kids can learn right in the backyard! Over the next few weeks, join Karrie for some Wilderness Wonderings that will add fun and enrichment to your days at home. Videos and activities to engage students and their parents will be posted on a bi-weekly basis.  Activities will vary from arts & crafts to science experiments using kitchen pantry staples – but all will get children into the outdoors.

With extra time spent at home, many may seize the opportunity to tackle some of the books that have been languishing on reading lists. The Wilderness Center staff encourages adults to join in a Facebook Live book discussion each Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. The first selection for discussion will be Aldo Leopold’s “A Sand County Almanac.”

Weekly backyard scavenger hunts will challenge adults and children alike to test their observational skills as they try to “Find It Outside,” and then share their discoveries. Additional posts discussing the use of native plants in landscaping and their benefit on surrounding wildlife will offer suggestions to encourage extra time in the garden.

Being homebound doesn’t mean we can’t explore our own yards and enjoy the fresh air. Time spent in the outdoors is so beneficial to our health, and is known to boost immune systems. We want to continue to encourage healthy habits and to provide a valuable service to our community in whatever way we can. We hope you’ll join us!
