A 2017 scholar, Nabintou Doumbia is a J.D. Candidate at Georgetown University Law Center, where she also serves as the President of the Muslim Law Students Association, a Staff Editor for the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal, an Opportunity Scholar, and a Member of the Black Law Students Association. She graduated from Wayne State University with a B.A. in Sociology and is currently working as a Judicial Extern for the U.S. District Courts. Nabintou is also a TEDx speaker and has been featured in various interviews about her advocacy work.

Noor-ul-ain Hasan, Esq.

2018 Scholar

A 2018 scholar, Noor-ul-ain Hasan received her Juris Doctorate from UC Berkeley School of Law in 2020 and now works as a Judicial Law Clerk in the U.S. District Courts, Northern District of Illinois. A champion of equity and inclusion since childhood, she was named one of Northwestern University's’s “Top Ten Graduating Seniors to Watch, a member of the Campus Inclusion Task Force, and a cofounder of a program that tackled racism and socio-economic inequality. After graduating with her law degree, Noor went to work for Allstate in Chicago as part of its Leadership Development Program. She promptly became the youngest person ever appointed to the company’s Diversity and Inclusion team. At just 23, she was charged with crafting a corporate infrastructure for employees who were transitioning gender identities.

Donya Khadem, Esq.

2018 Scholar

A 2018 scholar, Donya Khadem, Esq. received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Legal Studies, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently serving as a Law Clerk for a Federal District Court with plans to transition to a Federal Court of Appeals. While at Wisconsin, Donya interned at the White House Domestic Policy Council and at the U.S. Department of Education. Between undergrad and starting law school, Donya served as a political appointee at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under President Obama. Before working in the federal government, Donya worked in immigrant rights advocacy at the American Immigration Lawyers Association. At Michigan Law, Donya was the Academic Chair of the Muslim Law Students Association. She was also an Articles Editor of the Michigan Law Review, a Peer Tutor, served as Co-Managing Director of the Michigan Immigration and Labor Law Association, as Co-Chair of the Pro Bono Board and Nannes Committee, a member of the 1L Oral Advocacy Competition Board, Judging Chair of the Campbell Moot Court Board, and a Teaching Assistant for the 1L Legal Writing course. Donya was also an active member of Michigan Law’s clinics, having served as a student attorney in both the Unemployment Insurance Clinic and Civil-Criminal Litigation Clinic.

Mehdi Ali, Esq.

2009 Scholar

One of ISF's first scholars, Mehdi Ali, Esq. received his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2013, a Master of Arts in Sociology from Stanford University, and a B.A. in International Relations. He has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and the Kathryn Davis Peace Fellowship and served as a Judicial Extern in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He currently has his own firm, the Law Offices of Medhi Ali, where he focuses on venture finance, capital markets, and investment funds.

Noran Elzarka, Esq.

2016 Scholar

A 2016 scholar, Noran Elzarka is a Staff Attorney for the Brooklyn Defender Services, Family Defense Practice, where she represents parents and families in Article 10 and custody proceedings in Kings County Family Court. Noran previously worked as a Student Attorney for CUNY CLEAR, where she worked closely with Muslim, Arab, South Asian, and other communities in the New York City area that were affected by national security and counter-terrorism policies; as a Legal Intern for the Legal Aid Society of New York City, a Legal Intern for the Federal Defenders of New York, and a Fellow for the New York Lawyers for the Public Interest. She received her J.D. from the City University of New York School of Law and a B.A. in Political Science from Drew University. Noran is dedicated to working with communities who are criminalized and subject to violence and oppression by the state. She is involved in criminal defense and immigration/deportation defense work and also works with individuals who have been impacted by post-9/11 policies and practices.

Tooba Hussain

A 2020 ISF scholar, Tooba Hussain is a J.D. Candidate at Georgetown University Law Center where she works as a student attorney in Georgetown Law’s Appellate Courts Immersion Clinic and Executive Online Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. She is a first generation American and college student who attended Rutgers University-Camden for her undergraduate education before arriving at Georgetown. She is involved in Georgetown’s Muslim Law Students Association and the SBA and has spent her summers interning with UNHCR in Malaysia and with the Federal Public Defender of D.C.

Nicole Fauster, Esq.

2015, 2017, & 2018 Scholar

A three-time ISF scholar, Atlanta native Nicole Fauster attended Georgetown University Law Center as a Blume Public Interest Scholar and holds a Juris Doctor and a Certificate in Refugees and Humanitarian Emergencies. Prior to and throughout law school, Nicole advocated and worked toward the protection of marginalized communities both personally and professionally. As a civil rights attorney at CAIR-Georgia, Nicole pursues legal solutions for clients who are victims of bigotry, discrimination and hate due to their Muslim faith.Nicole has worked with well-known civil rights and movement lawyering organizations including: the American Civil Liberties Union, Project South, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, and CAIR-DFW to advocate for the rights of Muslim prisoners, support communities affected by government surveillance, prevent the deportation of Muslims, and organize the community around the Muslim Ban. She participated in two of Georgetown’s renowned legal clinics, The Center for Applied Legal Studies and The Health Justice Alliance, and by the end of her time at Georgetown, had completed over 150 hours of pro bono legal assistance.

Osama Alkhawaja

A 2019 scholar, Osama Alkhawaja is a graduate from the University of Chicago Law School and San Diego State University. His work focuses on the intersection of criminal justice and immigration issues. Osama has worked as a Law Clerk for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, the ACLU, Palestine Legal, and the San Diego Public Defender’s Office. His volunteer experience also includes law clerking as well as assisting operations at Islamic Relief Worldwide.
