Visitor Center & Exhibits

The Wehr Nature Center, located in Whitnall Park, is 220 acres of nature preserve and an education center open to the public year-round. Our visitors can enjoy over five miles of walking trails and explore prairie, woodlands, wetlands, an oak savanna, and Mallard Lake. The center also includes:

Friends of Wehr Nature Store

Our gift shop provides toys and gifts for people of all ages that connect them to the natural world.

Mallard Lake Accessible Deck

Donated and built in 2011, the deck allows visitors an up-close look at Mallard Lake’s beautiful view.

Variety Gardens

Just outside the native stone and wood Visitor Center are labeled gardens featuring prairie, woodland, and other plant varieties.

Outdoor Amphitheater & Fire Pit

The newly renovated fire pit provides a great places for friends and visitors to come together. Our outdoor amphitheater, located along side the fire pit, allows for educational entertainment and outdoor festivities.

Early Childhood Play Space

Dedicated in Memory of Carol Block, this is an area for young explorers to enjoy nature. Built in 2011 and located right outside the center, the play space offers a sandbox, stepping stones, and a log cabin playhouse.

The Exploration Area & Marilyn J. Gardner Room

The exploration area features a variety of natural history displays and an indoor beehive. The Marilyn J. Gardner Room is a multi-purpose room used for educational programs and private special events.
